What is the Civil Services Exam, sometimes known as the CSE? What is the significance of the IAS exam?

Civil services jobs are jobs that are directly related to public service and are highly regarded in India.

The UPSC conducts Civil Service Exams for positions in the federal government, whereas the PSC in each state fills positions in the state government. The Civil Services Exam, which is held every year by the UPSC, covers roughly 24 services. IAS, IFS, and IPS are examples of these services.

The Civil Services Examination (CSE)

is the official name of the UPSC Civil Services Exam, which is commonly referred to as the “IAS exam” (CSE)? Many people believe this exam to be the most difficult in India (and even the globe!). Every year, over 5 lakh applicants take the exam. The UPSC CSE is divided into three stages: 1) preliminary examinations, 2) main examinations, and 3) final examinations. 3) Conduct an interview. The examination period lasts a year (from June month of a year to June month next year when the results are announced).

Preliminary Examination for Civil Service

The Civil Service Prelims Exam consists of two papers. The inquiries are of a factual nature.

• Paper 1: General Studies [includes topics such as history, politics, and economics].
• Paper 2 of General Studies [which covers topics such as Mental Ability, English Comprehension, and so on.] CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) is the prevalent name for this exam.

Main Exam for Civil Service

Because the answers must be written on paper, the major stage is subjective. As per the new syllabus, the Civil Service Mains papers are as follows.

Civil Services (UPSC) According to the updated syllabus, the main examination consists of nine papers. Seven of the nine papers will be used to determine the final ranking, with two papers serving as qualifiers.

UPSC Civil Services Mains Exam Mark-Counted Papers

• On the essay, there is only one paper. (250 marks multiplied by 1)
• 4 papers on the subject of General Studies (which covers topics like History, Geography Economics, Polity, Technology, Ecology, Ethics etc.). (250 marks multiplied by 4)
• 2 papers on one optional subject – from a list of 25 subjects and 22 languages to choose from. (250 marks multiplied by two)

UPSC Civil Services Mains Exam Qualifying Papers

• 1 Paper on English Language (Comprehension, Precis Writing etc.).
• 1 Paper on a Regional Language (Comprehension, Precis Writing, Translation etc.).

The scores for the Civil Service Main Exam are based on a scale of 1750.

IAS MAINS EXAM DATES:

• Date of Notification of UPSC Civil Services Mains: August.
• Date of UPSC Civil Services Main Exam: October.

Interview with the Civil Service

The interview is a one-on-one discussion in which a candidate’s talent and dedication to society are assessed. The interview is worth a total of 275 points.

The final ranks will be determined by aggregating the Mains (out of 1750) and Interview (out of 275) marks, and the rank list will be based on the marks obtained out of 2025.
